Free Post #7 -Golf Ball

One of the most renowned sports that has been around for a really long time is Golf. Personally, I’ve been trying to get more into golf and its techniques as members of my family have convinced that it a very fun and entertaining sport. In my journey of learning how to golf, I’ve been watching some random YouTube videos on how to golf and the characteristic of golf, its clubs and tools used. A really cool thing I found is how much flexion golf balls have, they’re made of rubber so they are very bouncy. I found this to be something really mesmerizing to watch in slow motion but the closest thing I could find to what I pictured in my head is this gif below. As I continue to learn more about golf, I’m sure I will find more interesting things, can’t wait.

Free Post #6 – SlickDeals

As a college student who works two jobs currently, I am constantly in the habit of quickly spending the money I make on things that I desire. Whether it is food, accessories, clothing, etc. it is fair to say that the cost of everything has gotten quite high in the past couple of decades. This is where the world of couping and discounts come in handy, consumers who love to shop and spend money were now invited to save a little and encouraged to spend a little less for what they want. Online shopping has also soared in the last few years and to accommodate that, came online sites that offered coupons and discounts. One site that I probably visit at least once a day is Slickdeals.net. The website offers things which are available for purchase online and are either discounted or at a really great value. Check out the site and share with others if you’d like.

Free Post #5 – Doritos

I love chips, they’re probably the greatest snack ever made. One of the most popular chips every made is Doritos. Everyone around the United States knows them and I think that most people do love them as well. They come in a variety of flavors now but my curiosity had me thinking, what was the first time they were ever made? According to a google search, Consumer Reports says ” The very first Doritos were sort of plain-flavored. american consumers found the chips kind of plain without sauce, so Frito-Lay gave them a sort of Mexican seasoning called “Taco” in 1968. What we think of as the “original flavor”, nacho cheese, debuted in 1974.” Today, I do not think that Taco Doritos exist but how can they abolish the first every seasoning they came out with. I would love to try out how these tasted and compare them to the base Nacho Cheese version that is widely sold today.

Free Post #4 – Pursuit of Happyness

One of my favorite films is called Pursuit of Happyness and the cast consists of Will Smith and his son Jaden Smith. The story is very inspirations and is based on the true story of a Christopher Gardner who struggles in life and battle homelessness and familial conflicts to achieve his career goal of becoming a stockbroker. One of the quotes that Will Smith says while playing Gardner is something that I often think about from time to time. It is not only inspiring but is also a harsh reality of how life and interactions work throughout your career. I wanted to share this quote with you and hopefully, you share with others too.

You got a dream… You gotta protect it. People can’t do somethin’ themselves, they wanna tell you you can’t do it. If you want somethin’, go get it. Period.

Peanutize Post

For this weeks assignment, I was given the task to peanutize myself. This was a really fun assignment where I got to make myself a character that can potentially be a part of the Peanuts movie. The process itself was very easy and I didn’t really have to read any instructions or guides as the directions were clear. You had to first pick a gender then customize the character and his/her outfits. After customizing the character and finalizing everything, you had the choice to put your peanut into any environment you wanted and I chose a school locker background. This kind of reminded me of when I first made my Bitmoji which I use on Snapchat often when I converse and interact with others. It follows the same principle in which users create other cartoon-like versions of them that can be used in the digital space to show others. These creations put a version of a user online which makes the user feel like they’re actually a part of something. Many technologies nowadays allow you to create a virtual avatar of yourself, especially with games. With the virtual reality, users are now able to place themselves into video games and become one with the game itself. Users will create characters that are personally designed and used within video games and other applications. Even on just broader applications like Xbox Live, users are allowed to make avatars which they can design to either look like them or a fantasy version of them. This ties in with the debate of virtual reality and augmented reality that is often debated today. Giving users this ability to import creations of themselves into games and applications shows how far technology has come and how technology is even used in simple art-making like this Peanutize assignment.

Commercial Post

An Unexpected Discovery Commercial post

Creating this commercial for the website was my first time genuinely creating a project which required me to edit audio in a somewhat professional manner. I have played around with audio editing previously when I was in middle school. I used to be a part of a small after school club which taught me a few DJ skills. In addition to mixing songs, I also had to know how to edit them afterward. These skills that I learned were with the program called Audacity which has been around for a long time and continues to be used today. Knowing little things around the software came in handy during this project which required me to also record a commercial call for my website. The recording – which I recorded via a headset with a microphone – was easy after I had prepared a paragraph to read but the key part was making it flow with the intro and outro songs. To select the songs for the intro and outro portion of the commercial, I had just looked up two songs which I thought had a good catchy tune. After downloading these songs as MP3 files, I had loaded them into audacity so that I can edit them together. I cut out portions of each song that I didn’t want to include and then embedded by recording into the intro while there was background music. To add this onto the website I had uploaded the recording onto a SoundCloud account which then I was able to embed into my blog post on the website. The process was very fun and interactive and gave me a little flashback to when I was using Audacity for DJ Club. I will look to expand my audio editing skills in the summer when I will play around with the software and different types of music.

Meme Post

The meme I’ve chosen to talk about in this post is one that many may have seen before while surfing through social media. The meme follows the line given by a legend in films, Sean Bean, who had role in the movie Lord of the Rings. He says the famous line of “One does not simply walk into Mordor” and as the website Know Your Meme discusses, “Variants of the phrase are often used in image macros featuring Mordor, a fictional location from The Lord of the Rings franchise, or the character Boromir, who originally says the line in the film,” (Know Your Meme) The meme that I chose has the caption relating to memes themselves and describes my emotions on the topic that I am discussing in this post. After having the discussion in class about Memes I felt that during this post I had to share how I felt after learning so much about such a simple idea. Although the meme posted below says “One does not simply write papers about memes,” I wanted it to say “One does not simply make a post about memes” but the general idea is the same. A meme is so much more than just an image with a caption and instead it evokes emotion from both the audience and the creator.

Chess Boxing

I am a huge fan of sports, I follow many major sports such as the NFL, NBA, World Soccer, and MLB. I know that around the world the culture of sports is different in whatever country or city you go to. But what I didn’t know what the different types of sports that are out there in the world. After searching for some weird sports, I found something very interesting: Chess Boxing. ” The hybrid sport of chess boxing combines the mental game of chess with the physicality of boxing. Fighters participate in alternate rounds that switch between chess and boxing. It is a sport that is growing in popularity but what is it all about?” (Casino.org). This is such a bizarre yet unique idea, to combine a patient mental game which a high adrenaline physical one. It looks really weird in writing but when you watch a couple rounds, it is truly different that all other sports. Watch the video below to see what Chess Boxing is like (Click on picture itself).

Promotion Post

Social Media is one of the greatest tools that people can use to spread ideas and posts to one another. Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, Reddit, the list can go on but everyone is connected one way or another. Usually, users use these media to chat and connect with one another but often times, they may share things with each other that may be of similar interest. So in terms of how a visitor to this website can promote the site to others, social media can be a great tool to use. It is something that is easy to use and something that is used by many, you can easily reach a mass audience. Personally, I would share this site in sites like Reddit or to others in a smaller environment rather than a popular social media site. If users do share my website to others, physically it will lead to more visitors who can view and comment on the posts I have made. However, the effect of sharing this site can go further than that. If I do see more people visiting the site and commenting on my posts, emotionally it will motivate me to keep coming back and keep continuing to post more blogs. It can create a community of people with whom I can interact with and expand the website from being just an assignment for class. If you do share this website with others, I just want to say thank you and that I appreciate you doing something you don’t have to.

Dunkirk: Tick-Tock

I love movies. Movies tend to be a good distraction for me to get away from everything but they also invite me to experience something new every time. If I am being completely honest, I probably watch a movie at least once a week, something I haven’t seen before of course. Something about turning someone’s ideas written on a piece of paper into something that can be visually seen and shared is very interesting to me. However, unlike most people who watch movies, I have a tendency to notice the weird things that only a few others will. I can use the example of the film Dunkirk, directed by the infamous Christopher Nolan. If you have watched the movie, you might’ve been amazed by the writing and the story told by Nolan but what if I were to tell you there was more behind the screen. After watching tons of movies, I got very interested in some aspects besides what is shown. Specifically, I noticed that many movies had unique soundtracks and music that directors and editors used to emphasize and evoke certain emotions from the audience. In the film Dunkirk, there is always a constant ticking sound throughout the film that not only adds suspense but tells the audience so much more about the way the characters felt in the movie. It is something that I initially overlooked but after noticing it in the background, was completely amazed by the technique. Similar techniques can be seen in films such as the Martian and Interstellar. This might be weird or cool, I don’t know, I just thought I’d share in case some people didn’t know about it. The video below from Vox explains the technique used in Dunkirk.
